This piece of literature is helpful in embracing diversity because it begins with expressing the struggles many faces in America. The questions from others who don't look like you, such as "Where are you from?" the main character turns to her grandfather for an answer. I liked that the book highlights the multigenerational interactions in learning our own history and how the grandfather answers with a more poetic answer to the main character; I also found it interesting that the book never directly answered where the girl was from, so we seek context clues on where her ancestors are from. This piece of literature is helpful in encouraging future generations to not only seek the history of where they are from but also to get to know others and the history of their ancestors.
